St. Florian

Mid-18th century
Church of St. Peter, Munich, Germany
Copy of the stolen original by Johann Baptist Straub

St. Florian is dressed as a Roman soldier and holds a spear as a sign of that profession. The putto on the right holds the palm branch symbol of Florian's martyrdom. The one on the left holds a maquette of a burning building that will be saved by the water Florian is pouring from his bucket.
